Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted by a Trip to Gorilla Safaris guide and transferred to Akagera National Park. This scenic drive passes through beautiful Rwandan landscapes and local villages. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening. If time permits, a short evening walk or sundowner can be arranged, offering your first glimpse of the park’s savanna and wildlife.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise in Akagera

Begin the day with an early morning game drive across Akagera’s open savanna, spotting elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and numerous antelope species. After returning to the lodge for lunch, embark on a relaxing boat cruise along Lake Ihema. Observe hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of waterbirds, while enjoying the serene scenery of this eastern Rwandan park. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the rainforest. Evening is free to relax and prepare for the chimpanzee tracking adventure planned for the next day.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk

Start the day early with a briefing from expert rangers before entering Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee tracking. Trek through dense rainforest trails in search of habituated chimpanzees, observing their playful behavior for up to one hour once they are located. After lunch, enjoy the thrilling Nyungwe Canopy Walk, suspended high above the forest floor, offering breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy, distant hills, and abundant birdlife. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Cultural Visit

After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park, home of Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. Continue to the lodge near the park and settle in, preparing for the gorilla trekking experience the following day. Enjoy dinner at the lodge while taking in the surrounding volcanic landscape.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali

Begin the day early with a briefing at Volcanoes National Park headquarters before embarking on the gorilla trek. Follow expert guides through the lush volcanic forest to locate your assigned gorilla family. Spend an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and then drive back to Kigali. Stop along the way for photos and local souvenirs. Arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon for your departure or onward travel, concluding the safari.
